What type of seat is too thick for my baby of 7 months of use?

It is too heavy for her rear-facing car seat we have, I think it is waaaaay too small for a seat facing forward. Something in between?

It must remain rear-facing until a year which would suggest a convertible seat. There are many different brands available prices. I suggest going to Toys R Us and look around. A convertible car seat looks like a big kid car seat, but is designed to look back until a year and can be used forward thereafter.
